If you’re a current 2011 volunteer, how did you first learn about our volunteer opportunities?
Building on the Canada Games tradition, the 2011 Games torch program celebrates the unique culture of Nova Scotia in the very communities that help shape and define it, generating awareness and excitement in each region leading up to the Games.
The symbolic and inspiring journey that the 2011 torch will take begins in Ottawa, where a special lighting ceremony is held to mark the beginning of the torch program. It is tradition that the torch of each Canada Games Host Society is lit from the flame of the Roly McLenahan Canada Games torch which in turn is lit from the eternal flame monument on Parliament Hill. Once ignited, the torch returns to Nova Scotia where it will be welcomed in all four corners of the province. From there, the torch will travel to points across the province, igniting the spirit of youth and community along the way. The torch will eventually make its triumphant return home to Halifax where it will light the Canada Games cauldron during the opening ceremonies of the Halifax 2011 Canada Games on February 11, 2011.
The 2011 Canada Games torch will be appearing at community events across Nova Scotia from now until Games-time. Be sure to follow the flame when it touches down in a town near you. View in a larger map
