As a 16 year old in 1969, it was an exciting couple of weeks in Halifax – I wasn’t an athlete but was a member of one of the school choirs who together sang the “Look out World” song at the opening and closing of the first Canada Games. I remember wearing our “exciting” NS tartan blue skirts that our moms sewed (if I remember that part correctly ☺) and having free tickets to a lot of the events. I will always remember the incredible excitement in the streets of Halifax, being in awe of all the wonderful athletes and the pride we all felt being part of it all. I am hoping to apply to volunteer for next year’s Games also – it would be a shame not to be able to say I was there for both – 40 years apart!
