Take a trip back in time with 1969 Games stories!

I was 6 during the Canada Summer Games in 1969, which correct me if I’m wrong, was the very first summer games in Canada.

My Grandfather, god bless him, was an umpire for fast ball and after one of his games, he gave me one of the balls. A Spalding baseball wrapped in tissue and in its box which I kept all these years. Receiving that ball and attending those games had a profound effect on my life. I went on to coach in the 2003 Canada Winter Games, Female Hockey. I took that baseball with me to Bathurst, and it sat on the bench of each game played. I could feel the presence of my Grandfather - without a doubt!

After our last game, I had the entire team and coaching staff sign it...a very powerful moment. It was a miracle in itself that the baseball stayed with me all these years!

So my story has come full circle covering the generations. Kinda cool don’t you think?

I will never forget my Canada Games experiences. They still send a chill through me. It’s an awesome experience!

Good luck to all the athletes, coaches, support staff and organizers who make it all possible!
