Volunteers are the heart of the Canada Games, volunteering in roles related to customer service, medical support, volunteer services, IT, mascot support, production, and media support, to name a few! Regardless of the specific role volunteers perform, each person brings a set of qualities and competencies that help them succeed.
Specifically, our volunteers are:
- Service-oriented, responding to requests in a helpful, courteous and friendly manner
- Skilled communicators, actively listening to others to understand different points of view, and relaying information in a clear manner
- Flexible, willing to adapt to changes to meet the end goal—delivering an exceptional games
Volunteers performing in leadership roles offer additional qualities and competencies that help them succeed.
Leadership volunteers are:
- Team leaders, ensuring our volunteers work as a team, have the information and tools they need, and are supported during the games
- Change managers, identifying when changes may be required, getting approval to make those changes, and helping others to understand what has changed
- Risk managers, including the ability to anticipate, identify and effectively deal with issues and risks at games-time
Most of all, our volunteers are enthusiastic and excited to be a part of the largest multi-sport event in Halifax’s history.
