Chair, Board of Directors

JP is the President of Acadian Seaplants Limited (ASL), a bio-tech company specializing in the manufacturing, cultivating and processing of marine plant products for global health & beauty, animal feed and agri-chemical markets.  It also cultivates unique, edible seaweed products for the Asian food market.  Acadian Seaplants exports value-added, seaweed-based products to over 70 countries throughout the world and employs over 300 people in nine countries.

Mr. Deveau was born in Moncton, New Brunswick.  He obtained his B.Sc. at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1979, his Bachelor of Engineering (Industrial) with distinction from the Technical University of NS, Halifax, NS (now Dalhousie University) in 1981 and his M.B.A. (Small Business) from McGill University, Montreal, Quebec in 1986.

Jean-Paul Deveau currently serves as Past-Chair of BioNova (the Nova Scotia Biotechnology & Life Sciences Industry Association) and sits on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (Nova Scotia Chapter), is a member of the Board of Directors of RDÉE-Canada (Le Réseau de développement économique et d’employabilité), and is a member of Council of the International Seaweed Association (an international group of academic and industrial users of seaweed responsible for organizing international seaweed symposia). 


Chuck BridgesChuck Bridges
Vice-Chair, Board of Directors

Chuck Bridges is Vice-Chair of the Halifax 2011 Canada Games Board of Directors and Chair of the Games Legacy Committee. Outside his volunteer role with the Games, Chuck currently serves as Vice-President, Stakeholder Relations, for the Atlantic Lottery Corporation.  He was previously Vice-President (Assoc.), External Affairs, at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where his contributions were felt across the entire university. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education, an Outstanding Contribution Award from the Commerce Society at Saint Mary’s, and an Honorary Gold “M” from the Saint Mary’s University Students’ Association. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Saint Mary's University.

An active community leader, Chuck also serves on the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and has volunteered his time to numerous other organizations including the Pan Am Games and Neptune Theatre.
