Sport - Gymnastics

Sport Description

Gymnastic events for men were included in the program of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. In 1928, a team gymnastic event was authorized for women, but not until 1952 did women compete in individual events. Artistic gymnastics has been part of the Canada Games since the first Canada Winter Games in 1967 in Quebec City. There are three competitions for men and three for women.

Artistic gymnastics competitions will occur during week 1 and is one of three sports that will compete in the brand new Mainland Common Centre.

Fun Facts

The history of gymnastics can be traced to ancient Greece. ‘Gymnastics’ originated from the word ‘gymnazein’, which means ‘exercising without clothes’.
