Sport Description

Snowboarding first appeared on the Olympic Games program in the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan and featured Halfpipe and Giant Slalom competitions. At the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, the Giant Slalom was replaced with the Parallel Giant Slalom. Snowboarding made its Canada Winter Games debut at the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse.

Halfpipe, Parallel Giant Slalom, and Snowboard Cross will be featured at the 2011 Games at Ski Martock during week 2.

Fun Facts

Alexandra Duckworth, of Nova Scotia, won the first ever gold medal in women’s snowboarding at the 2007 Canada Games in Whitehorse. 

The very first snowboard Olympic gold medal was awarded to Canada’s Ross Rebagliati, in the GS (Giant Slalom) at the 1998 Nagano Olympics.
