GET INVOLVED

This is your chance to step up to the plate with goodwill, hard work and the desire to be part of something truly special. The question is: what will you bring?

What will you bring as a Venue-Team (V-Team) Representative?
From Environmental Services to IT, Medical to Transportation, 17 different functional areas will require representation on over a dozen different Venue Teams.   Starting this fall, V-Team Reps will showcase their leadership and communication skills by liaising between the Venue Team, their respective functional area and staff leading up to and during the Games; playing an integral role in ensuring the success of the Games.

What will you bring as a Volunteer Office Administrator?
The Host Society is building a pool of talented office volunteers to help out with things like reception services, acting as the initial point of contact for inquiries and visitors to the Host Society Office.  Office administration volunteers will showcase their computer skills, professionalism and attention to detail.  Help maintain office operations in the event of staff meetings, employee illness and vacation leave throughout the planning and delivery of the Games by providing general administrative support and interacting with staff, Board members, volunteers, and members of the public.

Why did you want to get involved in the games?
When the opportunity arose to help put on the Canada Games I thought it was fantastic chance to show the rest of Canada what this city is capable of.  This event has the potential to showcase all that is great about our home.

What are you most looking forward to at the games?
I think meeting and working with such a diverse and dedicated group of people has been phenomenal.  So far, the members of the operating committee, divisions, staff and venue teams have shown that there is a plethora of talent pushing forward to create a fun and professional games.  I am most looking forward to seeing just how successful this group will be.  It's going to be blast and one heck of a ride.

What do you do when you are not volunteering for the games?
My life revolves around three things: my baby Bevin, my wife Raelene and my profession.  Our daughter is 15 months old now and everyday brings new developments and experiences...what a rush.  Raelene and I enjoy spending our free time walking around the city.  As for my profession, as a Strategy and Operations consultant I help my clients grow and succeed while reducing their impact on the environment.  The concept of sustainability is to do least harm to the environment, contribute to the community and increase economic viability, which is a strong part of my belief structure.  I am pleased to be sharing this belief with the Canada Games.

Who's who?
The Games wouldn't happen without our volunteers, and here to assist those awesome individuals are some equally awesome staff.  Each edition will highlight a different Host Society staff member.

Megan Archer
Megan joined the Games family in March of this year and has been a great asset to the team.  She greets all visitors at our Barrington Tower location warmly and with enthusiasm.  Although there is no typical day at the Games office, Megan is constantly in crisis management mode; handling last minute requests and scheduling impromptu meetings are her specialities.

Outside of the office, Megan keeps busy with a plethora of outdoor activities; cycling, kayaking, and traditional archery are just a few of her favourite pastimes.  She is also a follower and practitioner of Shamanism, a spiritual practice which appreciates the connectivity of our natural environment. To make things just a bit more interesting, she can be spotted singing karaoke or fire dancing (careful Megan, sounds like a dangerous combination)!
